June 21st is the National Go Skate Day. June 23rd we will honor that day with a Skate Deck Art Show. Over 50 boards will be on display. The boards will be sold in a silent auction all day long. Proceeds from the show will go towards building public skateparks in Atlanta.
I did not found an association specifically set up to assist in the building of skate parks in Atlanta. The proceeds will be donated to the Tony Hawk Foundation. Which is a great group that does help build parks nationwide. Besides there are some great public skateparks planned & being built in Atlanta. Dunwoody Park, Piedmont Skate Park.
From 9pm-2am is a 21+ party. The auction will close at 10pm. $10 door donation. Alcoholic drinks will be availible. Live music by El Capitan & the Scalywags & DJs will perform.
The Go Skate Day Art show is now also the Official Beastie Boys Listening party for Atlanta!!!! We will play their upcoming new album around 9:30pm. We hold a raffle where the winner gets a copy of the new album. Proceeds go to "Go Skateboarding Organization". http://www.beastieboys.com/news/
We will also auction a special designed & signed old school Natas Kaupus skate deck. This board is #174 in a series of 500. The baord is Desinarium deck, which is a company Natas has started. The company lets artists redesign old school skate decks logos.
5 of the "Best" boards will not be sold at this show they will be donated to another auction held at Surf Expo. Now 1 more of the "best" boards will be sent to ASR for the National Go Skate Day Art Skate Deck auction. The Surf Expo connection:
If you don't me, I am Douglas "DOOG" Becker, owner of the dooGallery. I work for Surf Expo. Which is one of the largest trade shows worldwide for the Board Sports Industry. All the Surf, Skate, Wake & Kiteboard shops attend the show to buy their product & Clothing. During our upcoming September Surf Expo, The Board Retailers Association & dooGallery will host an art auction. The art departments of the Board Sports Industry will donate specially designed or painted Skatedecks to be sold in an auction. The auction at Surf Expo will be a fund raiser for the Pro Skateboarder Ray Underhill. He was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor. The artists submitting are from companies like Volcom, Hurley, Innes, Duffs, Quiksilver, Lost, and Powell... the list goes on. Many are famous, everyone is good.
